How the calculator works it out
The total sale is the sold price plus the postage the buyer paid. Every percentage fee is worked out on that total and rounded to the cent, the per-order fee is added once, and VAT at 20% is added to eBay's fees unless you switch on VAT-registered. Profit is what you received for the item and postage, minus eBay's fees, minus what you paid for the item, its postage and anything else; for a VAT-registered seller the VAT in the price is left out too. The break-even price is the sold price at which profit is exactly zero.
Questions
How much does eBay take from a sale in the UK?
On eBay.co.uk, a business seller pays a final value fee of 12.9% in everything else, worked out on the whole sale including postage and VAT, plus a per-order fee of £0.30, or £0.40 on orders over £10 and a 0.35% regulatory operating fee. eBay adds 20% VAT to its fees unless you are VAT-registered. Private sellers pay no final value fee on sales within the UK.
Does eBay.co.uk charge its fee on postage?
Yes. The final value fee is a percentage of the total amount of the sale — the item price, the postage the buyer paid and VAT — not of the item price alone. The Promoted Listings fee is worked out on the same total.
What does eBay charge to sell abroad from the UK?
eBay.co.uk adds an international fee to the total sale when the buyer is abroad: Eurozone or Nordics 1.05%; US or Canada 1.8%; Elsewhere 2%.
Does this include Shop discounts?
No. The rates are the ones eBay publishes for sellers without a subscription and without Top Rated discounts; a subscription lowers the final value fee in many categories.
